Congolese league club sanctioned

FC Renaissance of the Democratic Republic of Congo has been relegated to the second division following the uproar by its fans. The Kinshasa-based club has a history with of fan violence. This decision was taken by the governing body, LINAFOOT (Congolese Football League).

They were fine US$20,000 and implored to pay for all damages incurred during the fan rage. Violence broke out when the lost to Vita Club at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa. Their supporters threw projectiles and other harmful materials into the pitch, while the management invaded the pitch.
