The Portuguese lost a penalty through Andre Silva in the first half while Mexico got lucky when Chicharito’s cross was deflected into Portugal’s own net by Luis Neto. The European champions had a shaky defence and the buildup led to the own goal.

Learning from their semi-final penalty shootout loss to Chile, Adrien Silva confidently tucked in a penalty kick they won 15′ minutes into extra time after Miguel Layun committed a foul in the 18′ yard area.
