Germany win 2017 Confederations Cup

It was a triumphant night for Joachim Loew as his side won the FIFA 2017 Confederations Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia defeating Chile by 1 -0. Chile dominated in the earlier stages of the match up until the 20′ minute when Lars Stindl, the Borussia Monchengladbach forward capitalised on an error from Marcelo Diaz to score the title decider. the match was well-graced by football stars like Ronaldo de Lima, Diego Maradona, etc.

The both sides met during the group stage of this tournament and they had played a draw, 1 – 1. The South American champions wasted a potpourri of goal scoring chances and the German goalkeeper, Ter Stegen did a yeoman’s job at the sticks denying Chile of goal scoring chances.

With this victory, Joachim Loew’s experimental squad has been vindicated. When he travelled to this tournament without the favourites like Marco Reus, Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira, Jerome Boateng to mention but a few, he received torrents of criticism from the press. Loew won the World Cup in 2014 and is positioning to successfully defend this title in 2018.
