This was the first ever encounter between Costa Rica and Serbia. The game started out with both sides having impressive displays. The first booking of the match went to Costa Rican midfielder, Francisco Calvo wrongly tackling Tadic. The first half ended a barren draw.
In the 56′ minute, Serbia captain, Aleksandar Kolarov scored a stunner through a beautifully taken free-kick that beat Keylor Navas. Kolarov’s goal was the third goal scored via free-kick in the competition and that was the maximum number of free-kicks scored in the 2014 edition.
