Nigeria has qualified for the finals of the FIBA AfroBasket by defeating host nation, Rwanda by 79 – 48.
D’Tigress put up a spectacular first-quarter display, out-scoring Rwanda to take a resounding lead. In the first quarter, the Nigerians had a 40% shooting conversion and made 4/7 of their attempted 3-point shots. It ended 6 -22 in favour of the Nigerians.
By half-time, D’Tigress was leading by a 26-point margin and Amy Okonkwo and Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah stole the show. The second quarter ended 18 – 44.
In the third quarter, the Rwandanese resurged outshooting the Nigerians. D’Tigress controlled the game but gave away too many fouls in this quarter allowing Rwanda to go to the free-throw line routinely.
The third quarter ended 35 – 58 with Nigeria being in firm control of the game. The D’Tigress stifled every move of the Rwandan ladies and ended the quarter with a 23-point advantage.
This is Nigeria’s fourth consecutive final at the FIBA Women AfroBasket tourney and it’s a record-breaking one.
