Nigeria D’Tigress earn historic win against Turkey at the FIBA World Cup

Nigeria D’Tigress defeated Turkey, 74 – 68 to earn their first ever world cup win at the ongoing FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 in Tenerife, Spain. Sarah Ogoke-Ejiogu got the highest point for Nigeria, 22 points. Evelyn Akhator impressed with 13 points. Nigeria’s final group game will be against Argentina on Tuesday.

Head coach, Otis Hughley Jr. who got the job just weeks to the tournament was proud of the girls’ efforts. In the post-match interview, he said, “We came through a lot of adversity and mistakes and were still able to fight off a couple of runs. We even held on with some poise when two of our main players fouled out.” The historic win for Nigeria also completed a distinguishing African double against European opposition. Senegal defeated Latvia in their first match of the tourney.
