Lewis Hamilton pays homage to Schumacher after equaling F1 czar’s record

Mercedes Benz driver, Lewis Hamilton paid homage to Michael Schumacher on Saturday after equaling the German’s Formula 1 record of pole positions. The British race-driver reached pole position at the Belgian Grand Prix in Brussels getting at par with Schumacher for the all-time record of 68 Formula 1 pole positions.

Hamilton defeated his fierce rival, Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari by 0.242 seconds in Brussels ahead of Sunday’s vote. Hamilton was 0.541 seconds ahead of his Mercedes Benz teammate, Valtteri Bottas, who was third ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. Max Verstappen headed teammate, Daniel Ricciardo to a RedBullesque third row.

Lewis Hamilton tweeted, “I’m honoured to have raced with you. Equaling your pole position record is a dream come true. I pray for your family at this time.” The German is still recovering from a devastating head injury he sustained while holidaying with friends at the French Alps on December 29, 2013.
