James Harden of the Houston Rockets signs the biggest contract in NBA history

About a week ago, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors signed the biggest contract in NBA history valued at about US$201 million. A few hours ago, Houston Rockets point guard, James Harden has broken Curry’s record by signing a five-year contract extension valued at US$228 million. Though not coming as a surprise, Harden put up stellar performances and had an impressive record last season averaging 29.1 points, 11.2 assists, and 8.1 rebounds per game.

His efforts led the Rockets to a 55 – 27 and picked up the third seed in the Western Conference, though the team lost in the second round of the playoffs to San Antonio Spurs. Harden, runner-up to Russell Westbrook for the NBA MVP this season two years and US$59 million left on his contract and is the richest contract extension in NBA history, eclipsing Stephen Curry’s by at least US$30 million. Harden took advantage of the brand new CBA rules that enable contracts for superstars.
