Virgil van Dijk remains doubtful for Leicester game

Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk remains doubtful to return for Liverpool’s crucial home game against Leicester City at Anfield.

The centre-back has been ill since the club returned from the Dubai training ground last week but was spotted at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground on Monday and Tuesday.

Van Dijk has started all 23 league games for Liverpool this season capping it with December Barclays Premier League Player of the Month award.

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp told reporters after before their Tuesday training session that, “Virgil was a little bit ill, but he trained yesterday and will train today, so we will see.”

The Reds have been beset by many injury woes and have fewer options at the back. Trent Alexander-Arnold needing more time to recover, Fabinho nursing a knock and with a suspended James Milner, Wednesday’s fixture with Leicester will be a tough one to crack.

With Manchester City losing their Tuesday fixture to Newcastle United, Liverpool can go seven points clear on the table if they defeat Leicester city in their midweek fixture.
