Spurs gaffer defends his operating philosophy at the club

Tottenham Hotspurs Coach, Mauricio Pochettino has defended his operating philosophy in steering the North London based club to success irrespective of its lack of silverware since he was appointed in 2014.

Since taking charge, the Argentine has ensured Tottenham Hotspurs has made it to the Champions League year on year. Following his exit at two major cup competitions in a week and the accompanying blames that has been heaped on him, Pochettino has insisted that it will be a huge mistake for the club to be so concerned about the pursuit of silverware.

In a space of three days, Tottenham lost to Chelsea last Thursday in a semi-final League Cup penalty shootout and on Sunday, suffered a terrible defeat from Crystal Palace, as they lost 2 – 0 in the FA Cup.

At a news conference this week, he implored that the fans remain patient and waxed philosophical about how everything in life takes a process. “Our fans need to know, when you ask me if I agree to win a domestic cup will help us to achieve the last level, I cannot agree. I only wanted to translate what we are doing fantastic things in the last few years, we are focused on different things, not only to win.”

The 46-six-year old Argentine listed his successes and spotlighted on the new stadium project.  “If you want to be one of the best teams in the world, you have to have the best facilities, one of the best training grounds in the world. We have that. You need to make that unbelievable effort to build all that… But I think Tottenham have all the infrastructure today or is going to have the infrastructure to one day be a club that can be a contender for every single title” he said.
