Guardiola doubtful about Kompany’s Manchester City future

Manchester City and Belgian captain, Vincent Kompany have doubts clouded over his future with the Citizens.

With this contract winding down at the end of the season, he has missed many games due to muscle injuries.

City Manager, Pep Guardiola has reiterated that the Belgian hasn’t played enough games for the past five years to warrant a new contract placing sentiments aside and will be subject to the agreement between the club, player (Vincent Kompany) and his agent.

Guardiola told reporters that, “He’s incredible, but the reality is in the last five years he’s played few, really few. We don’t have any doubts about his quality, we miss him when he is not able to play. He’s important, he is our captain and on the field, he gives us extra that few central defenders around the world can give us.”

He also added “That is the situation we have to put on the table and the club will discuss it with his agent and make the best decision for both. The club knows the sentimental issue is so important,” Guardiola added. “It’s not important for making decisions, but they have to feel, especially for the players who have been here a long time and helped us to build what we are right now.”

Vincent Kompany has played for Manchester City for eleven seasons now, after a 2008 transfer from Hamburger SV of Germany. He has won seven trophies overall for the Citizens, including three Premier League titles. As at press time, the Belgian has been capped 256 times and scored 17 goals.
