Alvaro Morata departs Chelsea for Atletico Madrid on loan

Chelsea striker, Alvero Morata has signed for Atletico Madrid in an 18-month loan deal ending his near-miserable sojourn in London.

The Spanish striker completed his medical on Sunday and had his first training session today, Monday.

He spent about one and a half years in London with his last match being January 5, 2019, 2 – 0 win against Nottingham Forest and he scored both goals.

His first seven competitive games saw him net seven equal goals and in a weird twist of fate, he found the net eight times in his final 40 games of last season.

At Chelsea, he was assigned to be a lead striker, a relatively new role for the Spaniard having played as a supporting striker in Real Madrid and Juventus.

The 26-year old fell out of favour with Chelsea Manager, Maurizio Sarri, who termed him as “a player that is a little bit fragile from a mental point of view. Under the present manager, he scored just five times in the Premier League.

Upon passing his medicals, he told reporters that “I’m very happy and proud to be here,” he said. “I can’t wait to start practising with my teammates and to start playing.”

The move to the Vicente Calderon Arena means that Alvaro Morata will be playing with one of the most potent strike forces in Europe including Vitolo Machin, Antoine Griezmann, Nikola Kalinic and Diego Costa.
