England beat Czech Republic to reach Euro U-19 Championship final

Manchester City’s Lukas Nmecha scored the winning goal in the 93′ minute with a deftly placed back-heel effort at close range as England defeated the Czech Republic in the semi-final encounter in Tbilisi, Georgia to advance to the final of the tournament. Nmecha came in as a second-half substitute and combined nicely with Tottenham’s Marcus Edwards who also came into the match in the second-half.

The progress made by England across the different age cadre cannot be over-emphasised. This is the fourth final an English youth team will reach this summer. Last month, England won the U-20 World Cup defeating Venezuela 1 – 0 in the final. They also won the 2017 Toulon tournament in June. They were semi-finalists at the Euro U-21 Championship in Poland last month and lost to Germany on penalties.

England also reached the final of the Euro U-17 Championship in May. This is the third Euro U-19 tournament reached by England having lost to France and Ukraine in 2005 and 2009 respectively. The Three Lions will be meeting Portugal in Gori, Georgia on Saturday after defeating Holland by 1 -0 in the other semi-final.
