Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes-Benz has won the Austrian Grand Prix. He nicked the top spot by a slight margin finishing 0.6 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. With this result so far, Vettel increases his lead over Hamilton to 20 points after nine races. Bottas’s teammate Lewis Hamilton, started in eighth place after he was penalised for an unscheduled gearbox change and he finished fourth in today’s race.
This is Bottas’s second career win from the pole position and he joined Mercedes in January as a replacement for the retired Nico Rosberg, 2016 world champion. Vettel now has 171 points to Hamilton’s 151 points. Australian, Daniel Ricciardo finished third. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen finished fifth while Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Fernando Alonso retired from the race. It will be Verstappen’s fifth retirement of the season.
