John Terry joins Championship side, Aston Villa

After having stints in Nottingham Forest and a highly successful career at Chelsea, John Terry has penned down a one-year deal with his third and maybe last club in his footballing career. Aston Villa has signed a one-year deal with John Terry that could see him earn £4million if he can fulfil his dreams of taking Aston Villa back to the Premier League. After signing, Terry said, “it’s a club I’ve admired from afar for many years.”

Aston Villa finished 13th place in the Championship in the recently concluded side and it looks primed to regain promotion to the Premier League. The former England skipper said he received offers from Swansea City, Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion but decided to turn down these offers because of his loyalty to Chelsea.

The 36-year old also said, “For me, it was just the mental side of playing against Chelsea, it was just too much to get over for me. I was 22 years at the football club, 22 unbelievable years, I’m very proud of that but this is a new chapter in my life, my career. I wish Chelsea well next season and will be watching out but my thoughts are 100% here.”

With this deal sealed, John Terry is one of the highest earners ever to grace the Sky Bet Championship and money surely wasn’t the deciding factor for him. If money was a sole motivation, John would have been elsewhere. He’s the most decorated Championship player. Coincidentally, he made his debut for Chelsea against Aston Villa in the 1997/1998 season at a young age of 17.
