Germany defeats Mexico to reach Confederations Cup final

Germany cruised comfortably into the final of the Confederations Cup defeating Mexico 4 – 1. Two quick goals from Leon Goretzka scored in 109 seconds was an enough primer to set the defensively abysmal Mexicans aback. The Germans will meet Chile in the final. During the group stages of the competition, the Germans were quite lackadaisical in their game approach with the South American champion and it ended a draw 1 -1.

After Leon Goretzka’s brace, Timo Werner and Amin Younes scored in the second half. The three German scorers are making their tournament debut. Despite the convincing scoreline, the Mexicans kept the German goalkeeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen quite busy with 25 shots on target. Marco Fabian’s swift long range effort in the 89′ minute was the only consolatory goal for the Mexicans.

Germany’s gaffer, Joachim Loew has admitted he’s using the Confederations Cup as a warm-up tournament to assess his player quality in readiness for the World Cup next year in Russia. Mr Loew’s ambition was not to win the Confed Cup but he said that since they are in the final, they have no other reason but to win.
