Alexander Lacazette joins Arsenal

Arsenal has eclipsed the initial transfer record set four years ago when they signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42.5m. Alexandre Lacazette has agreed to a deal with Arsenal in a deal worth £52m. With personal terms under wrap, the Frenchman will travel to London this week to complete his medicals.

Jean Michel-Aulas, Lyon Chief confirmed Lacazette will be joining the Gunners in a few days. In his words, “It constitutes, without doubt, a record transfer fee for Arsenal and for Lyon of course!” Lacazette has been primed to join Athletico Madrid for a while now but transfer ban in January saw that the deal never came to fruition.

The new signing has scored over 20 Ligue I goals in each of the last three seasons for Lyon. He has so far scored 129 times in 275 appearances for the French club. The arrival of Lacazette could be a deterrent for an impending exodus of the club stars. Mesut Ozil is yet to extend his contract, Alexis Sanchez contract would lapse next year and he’s scared Arsenal will not sell him to a Premier League rival, Hector Bellerin is wanted by Barcelona and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is being courted by Liverpool.
