Former Alaves of Spain handler, Mauricio Pellegrino has been appointed as the new manager of Southampton FC in a three-year deal, a week after the sack of Claude Puel. Southampton Vice Chairman, Les Reed said: “Mauricio impressed us with his depth of knowledge, motivation and ability, communicating this in a professional and passionate way.”
As Alaves coach, the Argentine lost the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona about two months ago. Alaves ended the 2016/2017 campaign in the ninth position. Southampton had a fairly decent season finishing the Premier League in eighth place and reaching the FA Cup semi-final.
