AWCON 2018: South Africa defeats Mali to square up with Nigeria in the final

Banyana Banyana of South Africa defeated Mali 2 – 0 to square up with Nigeria in the finals of the African Women’s Cup of Nations. South Africa and Nigeria booked their tickets to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Tuesday, with semifinal wins at the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations. Cameroon will play Mali in the third-place match.

South Africa beat Mali 2-0 in their semifinal game to earn their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup. Houston Dash forward, Thembi Kgatlana, scored the opening goal of the match and is the tournament’s highest goal scorer with five goals. A fellow Houston Dash player, Linda Motlhalo scored the second goal and was named Woman of the Match.
