Match Game 16 Summary: Poland 1 vs Senegal 2

Senegal started their campaign to the 2018 World Cup on a bright note defeating Poland by 2 – 1. They mirrored the success of their first appearance at the World Cup in 2002 when they defeated the defending champions, France by 1 – 0 in their first group match.

This was the first ever encounter between Poland and Senegal. Poland had the earlier advantage and in the 37′ minute, Thiago Cionek deflected Idrissa Gueye’s shot and that resulted in the first goal. In the 60′ minute, Mbaye Niang scored the second goal for Senegal through a defensive error from Poland.

Poland scored their only goal in the 86′ minute as Grzegorz Krychiowiak headed home a free kick. Africa now has their first win at the tournament, inspired by the only black coach at the tournament. Aliou Cisse is also the youngest coach at Russia 2018. Interestingly, he captained the great team of 2002 that had the talented El-Hadji Diouf.
