Crisis in the Australian FA deepens as FIFA amelioration fails

FIFA officials have failed to resolve the crisis rocking the Australian Football Federation and the A-League but discussions will still be ongoing. The ten clubs that make up the A-league have been pushing for the FFA to expand its 10-member Congress into a more democratic model but the FFA has been adamant to meet the demands.

The clubs say they generate 80 percent of revenues for football in Australia and want at least five seats on the Congress. The FFA, however, have offered the clubs two additional votes and one for the players on an expanded 13-member Congress, which both the clubs and FIFA have rejected.

A joint delegation of FIFA and Asian Football Confederation arrived Sydney to broker peace but departed without resolving the crisis. FIFA will disband the FFA on November 30, if a resolution isn’t reached and would appoint a ”normalisation committee” to take over football administration.
