Everton sign Cuco Martina from Southampton

Everton has signed the Dutch-born defender, Cuco Martina on a three-year deal after his contract expired with the Saints and he has reunited with his former boss, Ronald Koeman. He told Evertonfc.com that “Everton is a big club with big ambitions and I’m really looking forward to joining this group of players and the manager as we try to step forward next season. Obviously, I know the manager from my time at Southampton, so I know what he wants and he knows what I can do.”

Ronald Koeman, in turn, is fascinated by Martina’s versatility. Koeman said, “Cuco Martina is an experienced player who can perform in different positions at the back, which is important.” Everton has had a very busy transfer season and has signed Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Henry Onyekuru, Jordan Pickford, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney. With the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United for US$97.94 million and the letting go of four players, they can attest to having a balanced budget.
