Match Game 5 Summary: France 2 vs Australia 1
The match commenced with France creating numerous opportunities and having the edge. The Australian goalkeeper, Matt Ryan made very decent saves to stop the Frenchmen from taking an early lead. The first half of the match was quite physical with 16 fouls being committed by both teams. Australian midfielder, Matthew Leckie was the only one booked in his first-half after he made a late tackle on Hernandez.
The second-half commenced with France being the daring of both sides. In the 57′, Australian defender, Josh Risdon was yellow-carded for a challenge on Antoine Griezmann and a penalty was awarded. Griezmann converted the penalty by beautifully striking it past an immobile Ryan. Few minutes after, the Australian were awarded a penalty when Umtiti handled the ball with his hand in the 18-yard area and Mile Jedinak, the Australian captain calmly slots the ball into the net in the 62′.
Both sides made their substitutions and for France, Blaise Matuidi and Olivier Giroud were brought in. In the 80′, Giroud and Pogba combined properly in midfield and Pogba lobbed the ball past Ryan and it hit the underside of the goalpost. The referee had to employ goal-line technology by looking at his wristwatch before awarding the goal to the Manchester United star.
