Manchester City Benjamin Mendy becomes the most expensive defender

With a big war-chest, the imaginable becomes the possible. Just recently, Manchester City broke the bank to sign Kyle Walker from Tottenham Hotspur in a bid to bolster their defensive options in addition to Danilo that was signed from Real Madrid. Today, Benjamin Mendy has been signed from Monaco of France for a fee of 52 million GBP on a five-year contract. He told the club website that “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City, they are one of Europe’s leading clubs and in Pep Guardiola they have a manager committed to playing attacking football.”

Mendy started his career at Le Havre. In 2013, he signed for Marseille playing for three seasons and earning 101 caps in total. At Marseille, he established himself as one of the best defenders in France. In 2016, he moved to AS Monaco on a five-year deal making 25 appearances in addition to impressive plays throughout the just concluded season. He led his team to a Ligue 1 triumph in the 2016/2017 season and they also reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
