A torrent of former international football stars including the Samba boys Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo and Manchester United & Wales legend are being paid hefty sums hovering in the region of US$300,000 – US$600,000 to play a couple of exhibition matches in Karachi and Lahore, Pakistan.

Other big stars to grace the games are but not limited to, Nicholas Anelka, Robert Pires, David James, George Boateng and Luis Boa Morte. The players arrived in Karachi on a private jet this morning. The exhibition matches are organised under the auspices of the Leisure League and World Cup in a bid to popularise the sport in the country.

The tickets being sold by the organisers are quite pricey between the ranges of 2,000 – 30,000 Pakistani Rupees. For the past one decade, Pakistan has been devastated by terrorist attacks and international teams and players have refrained from coming to the country due to security concerns. The players attending these exhibition games are being guarded by the Pakistani military.
