Football governing body FIFA has suspended Sudan Football Federation because of government interference. With this ban, the Confederations of African Football (CAF) has suspended three Sudanese clubs – Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Merreikh from the CAF Champions League and Al Hilal Obeid from the CAF Confederations Cup.

Two of the clubs were disqualified from the African Champions League, few hours before kickoff this evening. The third was scheduled to play this weekend and had sealed a place in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederations Cup. Al Hilal Obeid was scheduled to play Zesco of Zambia.

When FIFA suspends a member federation, it means its national team and clubs are not allowed to play in international competitions and also, the federation will not receive any funding from the football governing body till it has been reinstated. FIFA abhors government bodies from interfering in the running of football federations.
