Pepe quits Real Madrid and signs for Besiktas
Pepe’s ten-year sojourn at Real Madrid has come to an end. The Portuguese international has signed a two-year contract with the Turkish giants, Besiktas. His contract with Real Madrid expired in June 2017. He joined the current La Liga champions for about 30 million Euros from Porto.
The former Real Madrid defender whose career will be said to be halcyon won three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, and three UEFA Champions League title. In his time with the current Spanish champions, Pepe won the Euro 2016 with Portugal along with his fellow Madrid regular and national team skipper, Cristiano Ronaldo.
He struck a formidable partnership with Sergio Ramos in the defence and put up a lot of consistent performances spanning a decade at the club. He has built a reputation for his aggressive plays on the field, earning torrents of cards (both Yellow & Red) and also getting a 10-game ban for punching Juan Albin and kicking Javier Casquero in April 2009 in a game against Getafe.
