Qatar wins first major title, beat Japan in Asian Cup final

Qatar defeated four-time champions, Japan to win their first major soccer title. Almoez Ali scored the opening goal in the 12′ minute for the Qatari following a stunning overhead strike and clinch the tournament’s all-time scorer with nine goals.

Abdulaziz Hatem doubled the lead for Qatar with a curling strike in the 27′ minute. The Gulf nation conceded its first goal of the tournament in its last game (seventh game) when Takumi Minamino scored for the Japanese in the 69′ minute.

Akram Afif made sure the cup was beyond the reach of the Japanese when he converted a penalty kick in the 83′ minute. Qatar scored a total of 19 goals in the tourney and conceded one. The Gulf nation looks forward to hosting the World Cup in 2022.
