Chile reaches Confederations Cup semifinals

South American Champions Chile, have reached the semi-final of the Confederations Cup with a significant draw against the Aussies. The Australians took the lead in the 42′ through a James Troisi nicely put slow chip. Chile equalised in the 67′ minute through the substitute, Martin Rodriguez.

The Australians were resolute and they went in pursuit of a second goal that became so elusive after the Chilean equaliser. Chile will meet with European Champions, Portugal in Kazan on Wednesday. Earlier on, Chile opened up scoring chances but was bedeviled by wasteful finishing and the superb efforts of Goalkeeper Ryan.

Four yellow cards were issued to the Australians who surprised the Chileans with aggressive displays in the first half. The Aussies dominated large parts of the game but were sapped of their confidence and energy when Chile equalised. There were flamboyant displays from popular footballing figures like Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez, and Tim Cahill, who incidentally has become the first Australian outfield player to reach 100 caps.
